Community Men in Action is working to help the community celebrate and remember the work of Martin Luther King Jr. next week, as they host a formal service, parade, and celebration in the park in honor of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20.
First, the organization is sponsoring a church service at 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, at New Vision Missionary Baptist Church, located at 301 Smith Street in Vidalia. Pastor Anthony Thomas II, who normally serves in the Central Union Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Valley, will be the event’s guest speaker.
Then, at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 20, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade will hit the streets of Vidalia. This year’s parade is centered around the theme, “Let the Light Rise in Darkness.” The parade will run down U.S. Highway 280 from its intersection with Church Street until its intersection with Smith Street.
After the parade, a Celebration in the Park will be held at Ronnie A. Dixon City Park in Vidalia from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. This event will feature food trucks, vendors, music, community speakers, and more.
