FIELD TRIP — Wheeler County ….
FIELD TRIP — Wheeler County Elementary School fourth grade students learned about how life was lived in the past on their field trip to the Museum of Agriculture at ABAC in Tifton. Students learned what a blacksmith does and watched Mr. Tucker forge a tool. They learned how a gristmill works and got to grind corn into corn meal. Then the kids experienced what a typical school day looked like in the 1800s. They completed math questions on a slate with chalk. At lunch, students enjoyed a traditional meal prepared over a wood burning stove. After lunch, students got to work washing dishes, collecting wood for the stove, raking leaves, sweeping the floor, and feeding the chickens. They rode a steam-engine train and got to purchase ice cream from an old-fashioned General Store.
