The Toombs County High School wrestling team kept with their winning energy and traveled to Dublin to compete at the Area Dual Championships. It was a big tournament for the Mat-Dawgs as they rolled to the Area Dual Title.

Toombs then moved on last weekend to compete in the State Dual Championships that were held at Heard County High School. The Bulldogs battled their way to the finals, but met up with powerhouse, Social Circle. It was the second year in a row the Bulldogs have finished as State Runner-up.

Area

The MatDawgs wasted no time setting the tone for the day with a 83-0 win over Montgomery County in the first round. The second round, the MatDawgs only dropped two individual matches in a 71-8 win over Fitzgerald. The win over Fitzgerald set up the Bulldogs to compete in the finals against Dublin.

The finals were set and the MatDawgs met the home team, Dublin for the Area Championship. The Irish brought some fight, winning four individual matches in the dual, but the Bulldogs had little to worry about coming away with an Area Championship in the finals with a score of 60-18.

The top two teams from each Area move forward this week, earning bids to the State Dual Championships. The Championships will be held at Heard County High School in Franklin, GA. Wrestling will begin Friday at 4:00 p.m. and continue through Saturday.

State

At the State Dual Championships at Heard County, the Bulldogs took on Berrien County in the first round. Toombs continued their form as they rolled to a 6613 victory. That set them up against Gordon Lee in the second round. This was a tougher match, but the Bulldogs came out on top, 48-26 to earn a spot in the semifi- continued from page

Semifinals vs. Bremen

Against Bremen in the semifinals Toombs got wins from Lukas Young at 106lbs. and Walker Bunch at 113lbs. to take the early lead. Bremen tied the match at 1212, but a decision by Wyatt Bunch at 126lbs. put the Bulldogs back on top.

Bremen won the next two matches to take a 2115 lead, but wins by Robert Agzigian, Tyson Brantley, and Dabvn Wadley put the Bulldogs in front 25-21.

Another win from Bremen closed the lead to 25-24, but a big technical fall win from Lucas Coley at 175lbs. gave the Bulldogs a 30-24 lead. Leeson Allen then got an 8-2 decision at 190lbs. To give Toombs a little cushion, 33-24. Bremen won the final match at 215lbs., but it was not enough as the Bulldogs took the victory, 33-30, to advance to the finals against Social Circle.

Championship vs. Social Circle Toombs gave it their all, but Social Circle was too much as they defeated the Bulldogs in the finals.

Social Circle won the first four matches of the dual to take a 22-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Toombs picked up a win from Bunch at 126lbs. in a close 13-12 decision, but the next two matches went to Social Circle to give them a 34-3 lead.

Brantley picked up a major victory, 12-3, at 144lbs., and Wadley won by pin at 157lbs. Coley won by technical fall at 175lbs. But it was not enough as Social Circle took the match, 51-18.

It is the second year in a row with a State Runner up finish for the Bulldogs. Toombs will now move on as they get ready for the Individual Championships.
