RTCA Splits With Pinewood

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders basketball teams faced off with Pinewood Christian Academy at home last Thursday. The Lady Crusaders got the win over the Lady Patriots, but the boys lost a hard fought game.

Girls vs. Pinewood

In the girls' game, Pinewood jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter, but the Lady Crusaders got things going in the second as they outscored the Lady Patriots, 13-3, to take a 21-17 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, RTCA increased their lead to 30-24, and then held on in the fourth to win the game, 42-36.

RTCA was led by Amelia Mercer with 12 points, Kailen Brantley added 11 points, and Meredith Durden posted 9 in the win.

Boys vs. Pinewood

In the boys game, it was a bad fourth quarter that cost the Crusaders the game. RTCA was up 14-11 at the end of the first, and pushed that lead to 26-19 by the end of the first half.

In the third quarter, the Crusaders remained in control of the game as they took a 44-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

But in the fourth, Pinewood went on a run as they outscored RTCA, 254, on the way to a 57-48 victory over the Crusaders.

The Lady Crusaders are now 10-8 on the season while the boys are 9-7. This week RTCA was scheduled to play Memorial Day at home on Tuesday, but that game was subject to winter weather. They will be at Citizens Christian Academy on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
