Indians Wrestle At Sweet Onion

The Vidalia High School wrestling team took the short trip over to Toombs County High School last week to take part in the Sweet Onion Invitational wrestling tournament. It was an Individual tournament with the Indians having several boys and girls earning top honors. As a team, the Indians finished in fifth place out of 17 teams.

Girls

For the Lady Indians, Messiah Salem led the way as she took first place for the VHS at 130lbs. She earned wins with a pin and a major decision. Zakhia White took second place at 235lbs. and had two pins during her tournament. And Imani Hall came in third place at 125lbs., also with two pins over opponents.

Boys

Duece Hightower took 1st place at 175lbs., and was Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. Hightower went on a tear as he won three matches in a row by pin on the way to the Championship match. He won that, 5-0, over Tim Brown from Tem- continued from page

ple High. Jack Godbee took first place at 190lbs. He won his first two matches by pin, won the next by technical fall to get into the Championship,a nd then defeated Jayden Watkins of West Laurens by pin to win the title.

Levi Palmer was first at 285lbs. He won his first match by technical fall, then took his next by pin. He won the semifinals match by a 5-2 decision, and took the Championship match by pin over Barrett Tosenberger of Jones County.

Cayleb Sanford finished in fourth place at 165lbs. He got two wins by pin, but fell in the colsolation third place match to Chase Faamausili of Harlem.

JV

For the junior varsity, Dylan Kicklighter was 1st place at 126lbs., Eddie Wilcox was second at 126lbs., and Tracy Blair was third at 157lbs.

Next up is Individual Region for the VHS boys and girls.
