Solid Season For Chiefs

The JR Trippe Chiefs Wrestling Team wrapped up a strong season on Thursday, January 16, at West Laurens Middle School at the MGMSAA Region Championships.

The Chiefs started wrestling in October and have trained hard over the past few months. They showed their grit and determination by finishing well at the final tournament of the year.

Dylan Kicklighter capped off a very successful middle school career with his third region championship. Dylan has been a dedicated leader in the wrestling room and sets a great example for our young wrestlers to follow. He is passionate about competing and it shows on the mat. Coach Gray Meredith said, 'Dylan has a bright future ahead of him as he moves up to high school. He works hard at practice, and it shows on match day.'

First year wrestler Antone Victoria was a welcome addition to the team and also brought home a region championship in the heavyweight weight class. Antone scored a late third period pin in the finals to cap off his eighthgrade season.

The Chiefs also had a number of other wrestlers who had great seasons and brought home medals from the region tournament. Marcus Jones placed second after a tough battle in the finals. Peyton Coursey, Eddie Wilcox, Anthony Payne, and Landon Harvill placed third. Psylis Marin placed fourth.

Coach Gray Meredith said, 'Although we did not have as many wrestlers as we wanted this year, the quality of wrestlers we had made up for it. Wrestling is a long season that runs through the holidays. I am very proud of the work ethic, improvement, and record these boys and girls have had this year. I encourage them to work in the off-season and look forward to next year. With a strong elementary program coached by Sam Sapp, I expect Chiefs wrestling to continue to grow and improve over the coming years.'
