Vidalia City Council Appoints Citizens to Local Boards and Authorities

The Vidalia City Council began the year by appointing several citizens to new roles on local boards and authorities during their first regular council meeting of the year on January 13. During the meeting, the Council appointed 5 local construction and heating and air conditioning technician professionals to the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals Board, which was created as a part of the new building code that was approved by the council last month. This Board will serve to oversee any issues that contractors may have while receiving permits, and will hear the appeals of the cases. The men appointed to this Board will serve for differing amounts of years during their first terms, then every term after the initial terms will be for 3 years. Those appointed to the Board were John Ladson – 1 year term (expires December 31, 2025), Harry Moses – 2 year term (expires December 31, 2026), Michael Alexander – 2 year term (expires December 31, 2026), John Underwood – 3 year term (expires December 31, 2027), John Key – 3 year term (expires December 31, 2027).

Terry Edmonds was appointed by the Council to the Downtown Development Authority. Edmonds’s term will end on December 31, 2028.

The Council selected Darren McClellan to serve on the Vidalia Housing Authority. McClellan will serve a 5-year term that will end on December 31, 2029.

Council members also appointed several citizens already serving on Boards and in official capacities within the city’s legal system to their same positions. These reappointments included City Attorney – Daniel O’Connor; Municipal Judge – Paul Cook; City Prosecutor – Paul Calhoun; Public Defender – Johnny Vines; Planning & Zoning Board – Billy Snell, Jackie Moses; Development Authority of Vidalia – Wendell Dixon, Tres Herrin, Brian Frost; Vidalia Development Authority – Mike Calhoun.
