Wheeler Splits With Telfair
The Bulldogs basketball teams of Wheeler County High School split a pair of games with the Trojans of Telfair County last Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs dropped their game to the Lady Trojans, but the boys came back in the nightcap to get a win over Telfair.
Girls vs. Telfair
In the girls game, Telfair came out of the gate with the hot hand as they opened up a 17-6 lead in the first quarter. In the second, Wheeler slowed them down, and did cut into the lead, but Wheeler was trailing 22-13 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Telfair extended their lead to 38-19, and they went on to win the game over the Lady Bulldogs, 57-29.
Wheeler was led by Nikita James with 15 points. The Lady Bulldogs are now 3-12 on the season, and they are 3-5 in Region play.
Boys vs. Telfair
It was a back-and-forth first quarter with the Bulldogs hanging onto an 1816 lead when the buzzer sounded. But in the second, Wheeler went on a run as they pulled out to a 36-25 lead over the Trojans.
Wheeler continued to pull away in the third quarter of the game to take a 59-41 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Wheeler went on to take the win, 74-54.
The Bulldogs were led by Quenshawn Glasper with 20 points, Michael Wright added 15, and Justin Culver posted 12 in the win.
The boys are now 8-7 on the season, and they are 6-2 in Region action. This week Wheeler was at Wilcox County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at home against Dublin at 6:00 p.m.
