On January 14, members of the Mt. Vernon Garden Club met at the Garden Room of the Student Center at Brewton-Parker College to discuss the flowers of the month.

Thirteen members were present and hostesses for the meeting were Darlene Avery and Carolyn Hamilton. The meeting was called to order by Club President Linda Page. Hamilton gave a brief summary of the flowers for January, which are the carnation and the snowdrop. Most people are familiar with the carnation; however, we rarely hear about the snowdrop.

Following the presentation, a buffet luncheon was served by Chartwell's. January is traditionally a business meeting only. There was no special program. Each committee updated the garden club members on items that they are currently working on. The Mt. Vernon Garden Club has been in existence since October 1934. There were 12 original members. The club now has 26 members. Celebration of the club's 90th anniversary was going to be in October 2024; however, Hurricane Helene postponed this celebration until November 2024. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be Tuesday, February 11.
