CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Matt Vespa, Senior Editor at Townhall. com: Why Karoline Leavitt's first White House press briefing was pure gold.

The lies and ineptitude of Karine Jean-Pierre are gone. That alone made this briefing a success, but it’s also clear that Leavitt will gut anyone who tries to sell manufactured hooey in the press room.

Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner: Disoriented democrats still don't know what hit them.

As he starts just his second week in office, President Donald Trump is on a roll. On top of a barrage of executive actions, most notably on the border and immigration, Trump scored a victory over the weekend when the socialist president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, unexpectedly refused to accept planes from the U.S. bringing deported illegal immigrants back to their home country. Trump immediately responded with a threat of immediate retaliation — tariffs, visa holdups and more. Within an hour, Petro caved. Trump looked strong, and his adversaries looked weak.

Douglas MacKinnon, former White House and Pentagon official and author: Why Trump wins: The explanation for the farleft intelligentsia and haters.

Unfortunately for the far-left, hate-driven, broken-minded clique of the massively insecure, the American people know a winner when they see one. And in Trump, they not only saw the “winner” of all time but a person who could – and would – rescue them from the quality-of-life destroying policies of the left.

In conclusion, my parting summation to the inconsequential and useless far-left and “Never Trumpers” as to why Trump continually defeats you while exposing you as irrelevant: He’s much, much better than you. At everything.

Mark Halperin, political analyst and best-selling author: The great debate: Is Donald Trump cool?

Just days into his term, Trump, irrevocably changed by two attempts on his life, and carrying with him the experience of four years in the White House and four years out, may have something more important than cool: a purpose. Trump can weave together some of his greatest strengths: the bulwark of his MAGA fan base, his gifts as history’s greatest presidential television producer, and his profound desire to depart the office, whenever that might be, as one of the POTUS GOATS.

So really, who needs to be cool?** To return once again to the wise and formidable Taylor Swift: 'My life doesn’t gravitate towards being edgy, sexy, or cool… I’m imaginative, I’m smart, and I’m hardworking.'

For President Trump and for all of us, those are words to live by.
