Wheeler County Hosts Bulldog Winter Classic 2025

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Wheeler County hosted the 2025 Bulldog Winter Classic. The show began at 10:00 a.m. with Pee Wee Showmanship, where Lawton Thompson, kindergarten, won. Hattie Claire Sconyers, 3rd grade, placed first in the Novice Showmanship class. In the Junior class, Clay Ryals, 5th grade, won first place. 11th grader Zoey Vann landed first place in the Intermediate Showmanship class. Winding up showmanship with the Senior class, Luke Burns, 11th grade, was the champion showman.
There were 11 weight classes beginning with Class 1-Purebred Barrows. Zoey Vann won that class with her 254 lb Duroc barrow. Class 2-Purebred Gilts was won by Makayla Hughes with her Duroc weighing in at 211 lbs. Clay Ryals and his 220 lb Duroc won Class 3- Purebred Gilts. Hattie Claire Sconyer’s 235 lb Spot gilt won class 4. Finishing off the purebred classes was Anna Beth Ethredge and her 251 lb Duroc gilt winning Class 5.
In the crossbred division, barrows and gilts showed together. Makayla Hughes won Class 6 with her 174 lb crossbred gilt. Clay Ryals’ 195 lb barrow took first place in Class 7. In Class 8, Landon Burns won with his 200 lb barrow. Class 9 was swept by Braedyn Johnson and her 214 lb barrow. In Class 10, Remi Bateson took first place with her 228 lb gilt, and Landon Burns won Class 11 with his 245 lb gilt.
Following the last class, we brought back all first place pigs for the Grand Champion drive. Second place pigs were on standby. Makayla Hughes won Grand Champion with her pig from Class 6. Braedyn Johnson was Reserve Champion followed by Clay Ryals for 3rd Overall. Zoey Vann took 4th Overall and 5th Overall was claimed by Landon Burns.
