A Wheeler County Correctional facility inmate is among 37 individuals charged in an extensive drug trafficking operation across several South Georgia counties. Six persons charged in the case were already in law enforcement custody, and another 29 were arrested January 30. Eight suspects are still wanted in this case.

Dequatte Tucker, a/k/a “Deshawn Tucker,” a/k/a “Esco,” a/k/a “Freeband Esco,” 33, an inmate at Wheeler Correctional Facility, is among those named in a recently unsealed 60-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Georgia. The case, dubbed “Operation Crippled Business,” includes the seizure of 21 illegally possessed firearms and more than $17,000. The four-year-long FBI investigation revealed much of the conspiracy was directed from inside Georgia state prisons using contraband cell phones.

The 37 people named in the indictment are accused of participating in a conspiracy to import and distribute large amounts of illegal drugs in Ware and Coffee counties and surrounding counties.

Specifically, those arrested have been charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone, and marijuana, among numerous other charges. Conviction on the charge carries a maximum penalty of up to life in prison for most defendants, along with substantial financial penalties, and a period of supervised release upon completion of any prison term.
