In a thrilling display of wrestling talent, the Brewton- Parker College Barons defeated the Andrew College Fighting Tigers with a score of 33-19 during a dual meet held at Gillis Gymnasium on February 6, 2025. This match not only showcased the prowess of the Barons but also served as a poignant Senior Night celebration for standout athletes Sean Houston and Keyshaun Taylor.
The dual meet featured several key moments that contributed to the Barons' victory. Keyshuan Taylor's win over Corey Dye by fall at the 4th minute set an early tone for the team. Other notable performances included Blake Walker and Conner Wright, who both secured quick wins by fall within barely half a minute into their bouts against their respective adversaries. Senior Sean Houston, highlighted on Senior Night, triumphed over Jaheim Mills in just under two minutes. The consistent strength of the Barons was further evident as Thomas Crawford and Zaquel Davis added to the tally by winning their matches.
The evening was not just about the victories; it also served as a tribute to the seniors Keyshaun Taylor and Sean Houston. Head Coach Tyler Smith shared his appreciation for the seniors, 'I was extremely grateful for our two seniors Keyshaun and Sean buying into our vision two years ago when I took over as head coach, it isn't always easy changing coaches so late in your career. I appreciate them trusting me and Aris to coach them hard and watch them grow.' This sentiment underscored the emotional weight of the event as both athletes have made significant contributions to the team.
Looking ahead, the Barons are preparing to head to Marietta, Georgia, for the AAC Conference Tournament on February 21, 2025. With a current record of 6-7, the team remains focused and ready to pursue further success in their upcoming competitions.
