It was another big weekend for Daniel Salem of Vidalia as he ran his way to the trophy stand at the YMCA Critz Tybee Run Fest. Salem competed in the Chamacos Tacos & Surf 5k as part of the weekend event. There were five total races over the weekend from a 1-mile fun run to a half marathon.
Salem had a great showing as he came in 8th place overall and was the winner of the men’s 45-49 age group. He didn’t have his best run overall but still came in with a time of 20:07, which was still good enough for the 8th place overall finish.
Salem said, “I had two great high school coaches that taught me the necessary steps to win. Those coaches are Ladson Helms and John Goodman. My wins are for the people to see my strength and heart that I still have. I was diagnosed with an eye disease that could cause permanent blindness. I have dark glasses to help me deal with this condition. I refuse to let my disability take my dreams. Live, love, and play like there is no tomorrow.”
Salem continues to work on his times as he runs around Vidalia daily. He said that he will continue to compete as long as he can, and that he looks forward to doing so, and to continuing to win more races.
