Wheeler Plays Well In Final Week

The Bulldogs basketball teams of Wheeler County High School played well last week as they wrapped up the regular season. They faced off with Hawkinsville on Tuesday, Montgomery County on Friday, and wrapped up the regular season against Dooly County on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a record of 5-15 and they were 5-7 in Region play. The boys are 12-8 and 10-2 in Region play. Girls vs. Hawkinsville

It was the only loss of the week for Wheeler as the Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Devils of Hawkinsville. Hawkinsville was up 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Wheeler cut the lead to just one, 18-17, at halftime.

In the third quarter, Hawkinsville went on a run as they pulled away to a 30-20. Wheeler tried in the fourth, but could not overcome as the Devils won the game, 39- 33. Boys vs. Hawkinsville

Wheeler jumped out to a 19-11 lead, and were on top 25-19 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Devils came storming back and took the lead, 37-34. Wheeler did just enough in the fourth quarter to come back and get the win, 52-50. Girls vs. Montgomery

In the girls' game it was all Wheeler as they rolled to a 47-15 win. Boys vs. Montgomery

Wheeler was on top 21-11 by the end of the first quarter, and they held a 39-30 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Eagles went on a run and closed the lead to 51-48 at the end of the third. But in the fourth, Wheeler pulled away as they outscored MCHS, 24-12. That gave the Bulldogs a 75-60 win.

Girls vs. Dooly

The Lady Bulldogs took the lead and came away with the win over the Lady Bobcats. Wheeler won the game, 44- 35.

Boys vs. Dooly

Wheeler led the game 18-9 by the end of the first and pushed that lead to 36-24 by halftime. In the third quarter, the Bulldogs were up 60-45, and they won the game, 80-+61.

This week Wheeler will play in the Region Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs played on Tuesday against Treutlen's Lady Vikings after presstime. If they win that game, they will move on in the tournament. The boys will play later this week.
