During their meeting on Tuesday, February 4, the Lyons City Council selected the construction company to complete the work for the Faison Park Revitalization Project, which was first announced in 2023.

On May 18, 2023, Lyons announced that they received $2.2 million from the state Improving Neighborhood Outcomes in Disproportionately Impacted Communities grant to help revitalize Faison Park, located on Mitchell Avenue. This grant money is planned to help create multiuse fields, basketball courts, pickleball courts, and a multiuse building at the park’s current location.

On August 1, 2023, the Council formed a committee to oversee the project; this committee is made up of Mayor Willis NeSmith, Councilwoman Cathy Benton, Councilman Tracy Johnson, Recreation Director James McGowan, and City Manager Jason Hall. Since then, the group has worked with Project Engineering Firm Hofstadtler and Associates to craft a plan for these renovations, and has become ready to move forward with construction.

The construction contract was put out for bid, and the bids were opened on December 17. Three formal bids were submitted, but ultimately, Sikes Brothers Inc. submitted the lowest cost, which was totaled at $2,016,227.15. The Council authorized Sikes Brothers Inc. to be contracted for the work on a 4-0 vote, as Councilman Ivy Toole Jr. abstained in the decision.

The initial construction date has not yet been shared.
