MCHS Is Region Runner-up
The Montgomery County High School boys basketball team took part in the Region Tournament last week, making it all the way to the Championship Game before falling to Hawkinsville’s Red Devils. The Eagles defeated Treutlen County and Wheeler County to get to the Championship. vs. Treutlen
On Wednesday of last week, the Eagles took on the Vikings of Treutlen in the first round of the Region Tournament. It was a close game, but MCHS pulled out the win over the Vikings. MCHS won the game 68-64 to advance to the semifinals against Wheeler County. vs. Wheeler
The first quarter of this game was the difference for the Eagles. MCHS came out and took a 19-12 lead over the Bulldogs of Wheeler in the first quarter. In the second, Wheeler closed the lead to two, but MCHS was still on top, 3129 at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter, both teams slowed their pace as each scored just 10 points, but that gave the Eagles a 41-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter of the game, The Eagles held on down the stretch to take the win, 62-60, over the Bulldogs. The win moved Montgomery into the Championship Game against the Red Devils.
vs. Hawkinsville
MCHS gave it their all, but they could not take the win over Hawkinsville. Hawkinsville took the game from the Eagles, 6454, to win the Region Championship.
The Eagles fell to the Red Devils, 64-54. The loss gives MCHS second place in the Region heading into the State Tournament. This Wednesday MCHS will host Bryan County at 6:00 p.m. If the Eagles win that game, they will play on Saturday against the winner of the Central vs. Mt. Zion game.
