The Crusaders basketball teams of Robert Toombs Christian Academy played in the Region Tournament last week, which was held at Brewton- Parker College. The Lady Crusaders lost in their first game ending their tournament run, while the boys took third place in the Region.

Girls vs. Memorial

The Lady Crusaders jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first quarter over the Lady Matadors of Memorial. They added to that lead in the second to take a 17-7 lead heading into halftime.

But in the third quarter, Memorial started to get things going as they closed the lead to 26-18. Memorial went on a run in the fourth as they outscored RTCA 15-5, to comeback and take the win, 33-31.

Boys vs. CCA

The RTCA boys started their Region Tournament against Citizens Christian Academy. RTCA struggled on the offensive side of the ball as the CCA Patriots pulled away to take the win. CCA beat RTCA, 58-41, sending the Crusaders into the consolation game.

Boys vs. Memorial

Both teams got off to a very slow start with RTCA leading 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Memorial tied it up, and they took the lead 14-11 with seven minutes to go in the half. With 3:45 left in the half, it was a 19-18 led for the Matadors as neither team could get many shots to fall.

RTCA took the lead back 24-23 with just 45 seconds on the clock, but Memorial took the lead back at the buzzer to take a 25-24 lead into the locker room.

Early in the third, RTCA went back on top and was up 31-25. RTCA led 53-41 with just under four minutes left in the game. RTCA pushed the lead to 56-43 with just over two minutes to play, and RTCA went on to win the game, 65-52.

The win gave RTCA third place in the Region Tournament.

This week RTCA will play in the GIAA State Tournament. The Lady Crusaders will play on Friday at noon, at Stratford Academy, against the winner of the Memorial Day vs. Twiggs Academy game. The boys will play on Saturday at noon at Tattnall Square against the winner of the Grace Christian vs. Flint River game.
