Hawkinsville Over Wheeler

The Bulldog baseball team of Wheeler County High School dropped two games last week to the Red Devils of Hawkinsville. Wheeler was on the road on Tuesday and then hosted the Devils on Thursday.

Game 1

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs kept it close but could not overcome an early inning deficit. The Devils jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead.

Wheeler picked up a run in the top of the third inning to close the lead to 3-1, but Hawkinsville answered in the bottom half with a run to make it 4-1. Wheeler did pick up one more run in the fifth inning, but that was all they could get as they fell, 4-2.

Game 2

On Thursday in Alamo, the Devils jumped out with six runs in the top of the first inning. Hawkinsville added another run in the fourth, and then they closed the game out in the fifth with four more runs to win by the run rule, 11-0.

This week Wheeler was in McRae on Tuesday to face the Trojans of Telfair County after presstime. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when the Trojans come to Alamo at 5:30 p.m.
