Two Leadership Greater Vidalia Class small groups are gearing up to give back to their community, as they have planned fundraising events to benefit the Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society (SOAPS) and The Refuge Domestic Violence Shelter and Sexual Assault Center.

As a part of the Leadership Greater Vidalia program, class members are split into several small groups that meet regularly, as participants work to craft mission statements about their unique desires in their life and seek ways to play an active role in their community. Each participant completes a community project, either by themselves or with their small groups, in which they work hands-on in the community to help improve the area.

Rhett Carter, Stephanie Richardson, Marley Meeks, and Small Group Coach Ame Lane decided to focus their efforts on raising money for The Refuge Domestic Violence Shelter and Sexual Assault Center through a disc golf tournament. The tournament is open to players of all ages and skill levels, as the group will even have extra discs available for those who do not have any. Plaques will be given out to the top 3 placements in each division.

Registration is currently open until Thursday, March 6, and costs $20 per player. T-shirts commemorating the event are also on sale for both competitors and the community, and cost $20 each; all t-shirts must be purchased by Thursday, February 27. All proceeds from sales and registration will go directly to The Refuge.

The event will be held at J.R. Trippe Middle School on Saturday, March 8. Check-in will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., a player’s meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m., and competitors will tee off at 10:00 a.m.

To register for the event, purchase a t-shirt, or learn more about this fundraiser, contact Stephanie Richardson at (478) 4945424.
