TCHS Bulldogs To Play In Elite 8


The Toombs County High School Bulldogs basketball team is heading to the Elite 8. They rolled over Coosa in the first round, and then won a close game over Region foe, Woodville-Tomopkins in the Sweet 16 to advance to the Elite 8, where they will face rival Vidalia for a chance to head back to the Final 4. vs. Coosa
The Toombs County Bulldogs delivered a commanding performance in the first round of the GHSA State Tournament on Wednesday night of last week, rolling past Coosa with a dominant 77-29 victory. The Bulldogs’ defense was relentless, holding Coosa to just 29 points while showcasing their depth and balanced scoring attack.
Toombs jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the first quarter of the game and never looked back. TCHS outscored Coosa 25-13 in the second quarter to take a 38-16 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the third, holding a 60-23 lead going to the fourth quarter. Toombs took the win, 77-29.

The Bulldogs had just beaten the Wolverines the week before for the Region Championship, and now they had to face them in the Sweet 16 of the State Tournament. It was another close game between these two teams, and another big performance from Polke as he scored 26 points to lead the Bulldogs to the victory.
The game was close early with TCHS up by just one, 6-5, but they went on an 8-0 run to push their lead to 14-5. Toombs pulled out to a 21-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. But in the second, Woodville closed in on the Bulldogs, and at halftime Toombs was clinging to a 27-25 lead.
In the third quarter, the Wolverines took the lead, and heading to the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs were trailing 49-47. In the fourth, Toombs did what they needed as they took the lead back and held off the Wolverines down the stretch to take the win, 71-67.
Toombs was led by Polke with 26 points, Fletcher added 14, Bullard scored 13, and Stanley posted 10 in the win.
Toombs will now face the cross-county rival Vidalia in the Elite 8 on Wednesday night at home at 7:30 p.m.
