Vikings Over Turner Co.
The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team is under new leadership this season with Coach Seth Sitzman moving over from Vidalia Heritage Academy. Sitzman won three State Championships with the Eagles of VHA, and is hoping to bring some of that success over to the Vikings.
Treutlen did lose their first two games of the season, although one of those was in extra innings to Turner County. But last week they got some revenge as they run ruled Turner in five innings on Thursday at home.
Turner did get on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Vikings answered with four in the bottom half of the frame. Caden Parrish drove in the first run of the game for the Vikings to tie the game at 1-1. Treutlen then loaded the bases, with Brylan Ikner, Gavin Bailey, and Peyton Miller all walking to bring in runs. That put Treutlen on top, 4-1.
Turner added a run in the top of the second inning, but the Vikings answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning as Gavin Wood came through with an RBI single.
Then in the third inning, the Vikings blew the game open as they put 10 more runs on the board. Several runs came off walks with the bases loaded, but Bailey drove in a run with a single, Kylan Page had a two-RBI single, Jack Walker drove in two more runs with a hit and Parrish capped off the inning with an RBI single. That put Treutlen on top, 15-2.
Turner did add one more run in the top of the fifth inning, but it was not enough as the Vikings won the game by the run rule, 15-3.
This week Treutlen was at Hawkinsville on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host the Falcons of East Laurens at 5:30 p.m., and then Hawkinsville will be in town on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
