Indians Split With Bacon
The Vidalia High School baseball team played a double header against Bacon County last Friday in Alma. The Indians split with the Raiders, winning the first game, but falling in the second by just one run.
Game 1
In the first game of the day, Jackson Berry was on the mound and threw a gem for VHS. He struck out 14 batters, gave up just one hit, and walked only 1 batter on the way to the win.
VHS took the lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Veer Patel. But over the next five innings, the Indians were kept off the board.
Heading to the top of the seventh inning, the Indians were holding onto a 1-0 lead, but they got the bats going as they plated three more runs. Two of those coming off an RBI hit by Henry Adams.
VHS held in the bottom of the seventh, as they took the win, 4-0.
Game 2
VHS got off to a fast start in the second game of the day as they put four runs on the board in the top of the first inning. VHS loaded up the bases, and a walk to Dawson Stewart brought in the first run of the game. Berry added an EBI single and then a walk to Ian Moye made the score 3-0. The final run of the inning scored on a ball hit by Adams. That put VHS up 4-0.
VHS extended the lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Moye, giving the Indians a 5-0 lead. They added one more run in the frame to lead, 6-0. The Indians picked up another run in the top of the fourth as they held a 7-0 lead.
Bacon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, but VHS plated another in the top of the fifth as they led 8-3. Bacon added one more in the fifth to close it to 8-4, but the Indians again answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning to lead, 9-4.
But in the bottom of the sixth, the Raiders exploded for seven runs as they jumped out to an 1110 lead. The Indians tried but were able to get only one run across in the top of the seventh as they lost to the Raiders, 11-10.
VHS is off to a 4-3 start on the season. This week they played Ware County on Monday and Pierce County on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at Ware County at 6:00 p.m., and then they will host Tattnall County on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
