Wheeler Takes 2 From Telfair
The Wheeler County High School Bulldog baseball team played two games against the Trojans of Telfair County last week, winning both of the Region games. It was a close game on Tuesday, but on Friday the Bulldogs run ruled the Trojans.
Game 1
Kolt Bell was the key to the win on Tuesday as he stuck out 14 Telfair County batters as he got the win on the mound.
Telfair scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. In the top of the third inning, Bell came through with an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1.
But strong pitching on both sides of the ball didn't allow any more runs to score over the next four innings. That sent the game to extra innings.
And again, neither team scored in the eighth, ninth, or tenth innings, as the game went to the eleventh inning still tied at 1-1. But finally in the top of the eleventh, Bell again came through with the big hit as he drove in two runs to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead.
Wheeler held in the bottom of the inning as they took the win, 3-1.
Game 2
On Friday, it was all Wheeler as they rolled over the Trojans. In the bottom of the first inning, KJ Williams drove in the first run of the game, and he was followed by a 2-BI double by Trent Butler. Cason Stokes brought in a run with a fielder's choice as did Carson Ford to give the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead.
In the second inning, the Bulldogs blew the game open with 10 more runs. Bell doubled in the first run of the inning. Butler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score another run. Danyon Hayes walked in a run, and then a two-RBI single by Stokes put Wheeler up 10-0. Kyler Stinson drove in two more runs, and then Jaden Bridges tripled to score two more runs. The final run of the inning came on another hit by Bell. That made the score 15- 0.
Wheeler held in the top of the third inning to close out the game by the run rule.
Wheeler is now 2-5 on the season. This week they were at Treutlen on Tuesday after presstime. They will not be back in action until next week.
