The Toombs County Bulldogs struggled to generate offense on Friday, falling 7-0 to Pierce County on the road.
Pierce County built its lead gradually, capitalizing on Toombs County errors and timely hitting. They got on the board in the first inning after an error and a Dylan Figueroa RBI single. Additional runs came in the second and third innings, with two more unearned runs widening the gap.
Joseph Owens took the loss for Toombs County, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing five runs (zero earned) on three hits, with three strikeouts and three walks. Nick Carroll came in for relief, throwing 3.2 innings while surrendering two runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out five, and walking two.
Carroll also led Toombs offensively, collecting the team’s only hit in the game.
Toombs is now 6-6 on the season. This week they faced off with the Academy of Richmand County on Tuesday after presstime. They are at Burke County on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Next week the Bulldogs kick off Region play.
