RTCA Splits Opening Week Games
The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders baseball team kicked off their season last week as they hosted Briarwood on Monday and Trinity Christian on Tuesday. RTCA split those games, picking up a win over Briarwood. vs. Briarwood
The Buccaneers of Briarwood got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. That run scored on a pitch in the dirt. RTCA answered with a run in the bottom of the frame as they loaded the bases, and got a run across after a walk from Banks Hopkins. But that was all that RTCA could get out of the inning.
But in the bottom of the third inning, RTCA blew the game open as they plated five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Brody Randall had the big hit in the inning as he drove in two runs with a solid single. RTCA added another run in the fourth inning and then two more in the fifth as they built up a 9-1 lead.
Briarwood did get two more runs in the sixth inning, but that was all they could muster as the Crusaders took the win, 9-3.
Brittan Tabor got the win on the mound as he went five innings, striking out 11 batters and giving up just two hits. vs. Trinity
Walks and errors cost RTCA against Trinity on Tuesday. They gave up just two hits in the game, but five walks and three errors led to six runs from Trinity.
RTCA held the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning off hits by Tabor and Blake Durden, but Trinity tied the game in the top of the third inning at 2-2.
Trinity took the lead in the fourth inning with two more runs, one off a bases loaded walk, and the other off a passed ball. They added two more in the sixth inning on the way to the 6-2 win over RTCA.
RTCA was scheduled to take on Briarwood again on Monday of this week, but that game was rained out. They are not scheduled to be back in action until next Monday when they are at Vidalia Heritage Academy at 4:00 p.m. They will then host VHA on Tuesday.
