The Toombs County High School baseball team played two games against the Warriors of Tattnall County last week and one against the Bears of Pierce County. The Bulldogs won both games over Tattnall, but fell to Pierce. vs. Tattnall

The Toombs County Bulldogs leaned on an outstanding pitching performance Tuesday night to secure a 3-1 victory over Tattnall County.

Jackson Jenkins set the tone on the mound, throwing six and one-third innings, allowing just two hits and one run, while striking out six and walking three. Ty Hutcheson came in to close the game, helping secure the win.

The Bulldogs got on the board in the third inning when Cameron Ledford doubled to drive in the game’s first run. Toombs added to their lead and held off Tattnall County with a combination of timely hitting and aggressive base running, finishing the game with five stolen bases.

Joseph Owens led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Ledford added an RBI, and the defense backed up the pitching staff with a clean game in the field, committing no errors.

The Toombs County Bulldogs put together a strong team effort on Thursday, defeating Tattnall County 2-0 behind a dominant performance on the mound.

Ty Hutchinson was outstanding, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits, striking out five, and walking only one over seven innings of work.

fense did the rest. Joseph Owens and Nick Carroll led the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits each, while Ledford chipped in with an RBI. The Bulldogs were aggressive on the bases, racking up seven stolen bases, with Owens and Carroll swiping multiple bags.

Defensively, Toombs was flawless, committing no errors. vs. Pierce

The Toombs County Bulldogs struggled to generate offense on Friday, falling 7-0 to Pierce County on the road.

Pierce County built its lead gradually, capitalizing on Toombs County errors and timely hitting. They got on the board in the first inning after an error and a Dylan Figueroa RBI single. Additional runs came in the second and third innings, with two more unearned runs widening the gap.

Joseph Owens took the loss for Toombs County, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing five runs (zero earned) on three hits, with three strikeouts and three walks. Nick Carroll came in for relief, throwing 3.2 innings while surrendering two runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out five, and walking two.

Carroll also led Toombs offensively, collecting the team’s only hit in the game.

Toombs is now 6-6 on the season. This week they faced off with the Academy of Richmand County on Tuesday after presstime. They are at Burke County on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Next week the Bulldogs kick off Region play.
