VHS Track Wins At Baldwin
The Vidalia High School track & field teams were at Baldwin High School to compete in the BSN Friday Night Lights. There were 11 teams competing at the events, and the Indians won both the boys and girls team titles.
Girls
The Lady Indians competed at Baldwin High School in the Friday Night Lights Invitational, and they brought home the win as they scored points in the throws, jumps and distance events, they had a very strong showing.
Standout performers were Takaiyah Bacon as she jumped her personal best in long jump in her first meet of the season with a jump of 18'6'. Takaiyah won the Long Jump and Triple jump. Dashia Ford brought home the win in the 100h and placed 2nd in the triple jump, Maniyah Phillips had a big personal best in the discus and winning the event.
J'Miyah Hunt won the 100m and placed 2nd in the 200 as Kayden Love had a 2nd place finish in the 100. Georgia Meredith placed 2nd in the 800, 3200 and 3rd in the 1600 and Judith Hussey added up points with exceptional races in the 800 and 1600. The Ladies had a very strong showing in the relays, as well, as they won the 4×100 (Kayden Love, Aurhionna Harris, ZaMiyah Hodges and J'Miyah Hunt) . They also won the 4×200 (Kayden Love, Takaiyah Bacon, Dashia Ford and J'Miyah Hunt). The 4×400 placed 3rd (Aidyn Driggers, Dashia Ford, Takaiyah Bacon Aurhionna Harris) Out of 11 teams, the Indians came out on top. The top 4 team finishers are as follows: Vidalia-151 points, Bleckley-126, West Laurens- 119, and Cross Creek-71.
Caoch Mandy Godbee said, “These ladies are hard workers and are very determined to succeed. I am super excited with their performance this early in the season. They have big things ahead of them this season!”
The Ladies travel to West Laurens on Friday, March 14.
Boys
BSN Friday Night Lights at Baldwin High School featured great competition including 11 teams. The Vidalia Track and Field team was up for the challenge bringing home the win.
Jayon Coleman and Ja'Marre Wiggs hit the track for the first time in their high school career adding strength to the lineup, and Jaydyn Young ran an amazing 110 hurdle race in a time of 14.82 as he edges closer to the school record. AJ Thomas continues to dominate the high jump, and Andre Jackson impresses in the 100 and 200.
The top 4 teams were as follows: Vidalia-135 points, Cross Creek-128, West Laurens- 118, and Bleckley-83.
Individual Champions in their perspective events were AJ Thomas-1st in High jump, Jayon Coleman-1st in Long Jump, Jaydyn Young 1st in 110m and 300m hurdles, Andre Jackson 1st in 200m, 4x100m relay- Jaydyn Young, Adrian Newkirk, Tyler Mckinney, Andre Jackson, and 4x200m relay-Jaydyn Young, Adrian Newkirk, Ja'Marre Wiggs, Andre Jackson.
Other top finishers include CJ Monroe-3rd in discus, DJ Wallace-2nd in 110m hurdles, Andre Jackson- 2nd in 100m, and Adrian Newkirk-3rd in 400m Coach Godbee added, “These young men are determined and diligent in their training and fierce in competition. They know they still have work to do as we continue to grow and develop with sights set on postseason results and with numerous personal best results each week. I am excited to see what lies ahead.”
