Toombs Rolls Over Burke

Toombs County High School baseball put together an impressive team effort on Wednesday, rolling to a 12-1 victory over Burke County. Junior Tucker Braddy led the charge at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3, with hits in the second, third, and fifth innings.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, getting on the board in the second inning when Slade McDonald hit into a fielder’s choice that brought home two runs. Toombs County really opened things up in the fifth, scoring eight runs to put the game out of reach. Key plays in the inning included an RBI walk by Lawton Toole, a two-run single from Tyson Brantley, a two-run error, a two-run single by Cameron Ledford, and Braddy’s third single of the game, driving in another run.
On the mound, Ty Hutcheson earned the win for Toombs County, throwing four innings and allowing just three hits and one run. Hutcheson was dominant, striking out eight and walking five. Nick Carroll closed things out in relief, tossing a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
The Bulldogs racked up nine hits on the night. Kipp Mosley and Braddy each collected three hits, while Brantley drove in a team-high three runs. Ledford reached base twice via walks and contributed an RBI single during the Bulldogs’ big fifth inning. Toombs County also showed discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks as a team.
Defensively, the Bulldogs were sharp, committing no errors.
With the win, Toombs County is now 7-6 on the season. They kick off Region play this week with a three-game series against Savannah Country Day. They played the first game on Tuesday after presstime. They will be in Lyons on Thursday at 5:45 p.m., and then on Friday they will be in Savannah at 5:00 p.m.
