VHS Track Wins At West Laurens
The Vidalia High School Indians track & field teams traveled to West Laurens to compete in the Raiders' Friday Night Lights Track meet and brought home the team championship for the boys and the girls.
Teams competing were Vidalia, Appling, West Laurens, Dodge County and Dublin. The Lady Indians had a dominating night scoring 217 points over Appling's 161.50. For the boys' team, it came down to the wire. Going into the last race of the night, the 4×400 relay, the boys were down by 1/2 a point. They had to defeat West Laurens in the 4×400 to win the meet. They were up to the challenge as they ran their season best time in this event securing the win with 193 points to West Laurens 191.5.
Coach Mandy Godbee said, “These two teams come together each week and step up to whatever challenges are placed in front of them. I could not be more excited about the remainder of this season as they rally every day to improve and support each other to be the very best they can be. The Indians will host our Indian Invitational on Friday, March 21, at Buck Cravey Field. It will be an exciting event to witness, I hope you will come out and support our Indians!”
Girls
The top placers for the Indians were Georgia Meredith with 1st place finishes in the 800m, 1,600m, and the 3,200m, Takaiyah Bacon with 1st in the long jump and the triple jump, Zaviyana Walton was 1st in the 300m hurdles with a PR and was 2nd in the 100m hurdles with a PR, Dashia Ford was 1st in the 100m hurdles and 2nd in the triple jump, and Diedra Boston was 1st in the shot put.
Also finishing in the top were Judith Hussey with a 2nd in the 1,600m and a 4th in the 800m with a PR, Maniyah Phillips with 2nd in discus, Kayden Love with 2nd in the 100m, Aurhionna Harris was 3rd in the high jump, and J'Miyah Hunt was 3rd in the 100m and 3rd in the continued from page

In the relays, the 4x100m team of Kayden Love, Journey Clements, Zamiyah Hodges, and J'Miyah Hunt came in 1st, the 4x200m team of Kayden Love, Dashia Ford, Zaviyana Walton, and J'Miyah Hunt took 1st with a PR, the 4×800 team of Georgia Meredith Judith Hussey, Aidyn Driggers, and Samyri Dixon finished 1st, and the 4x400m team of Dashia Ford, Takaiyah Bacon, Zaviyana Walton, and Aidyn Driggers came in 3rd.
Boys
For the boys, Dajhari Spikes came in 1st in the triple jump with a PR, AJ Thomas was 1st in the high jump, Jaydyn Yojng took 1st in the 100m hurdles, Andre Jackson came in 1st in the 100m and was 2nd in the 200m with a PR, and Cash Driggers was 1st in the 800m.
Jayon Coleman took 2nd in the long jump and was 3rd in the triple jump, Roderick Berry was 2nd in the 800m, CJ Monroe was 3rd in the discus, Tavarius Franklin was 3rd in the 1,600m and the 3,200m, and Greg Taylor was 4th in the 1,600m and the 3,200m with a PR in both races.
The 4x100m team of Jaydyn Young, Adrian Newkirk, Tyler Mckinney, and Andre Jackson came in 1st place with a PR. The 4x200m team of Jaydyn Young, Adrian Newkirk, Ja'Marre Wiggs, and Andre Jackson finished 1st, the 4x800m team of Jordan Johnson, Cash Driggers, Roderick Berry, and Jayden Bennett took 1st place, and the 4x400m team of Jordan Johnson, Kashun Coney, Adrian Newkirk, and Cash Driggers came in 2nd with a PR.
