Savannah Country Day tied things up in the top of the sixth with a solo home run from Jackson Sammons, but the Bulldogs answered right back in their half of the inning. Nick Carroll doubled to right field driving in a run to break the tie, Owens added an RBI single down the line, and a Hornets’ error allowed another run to score, pushing Toombs County ahead 4-1.
The Hornets picked up another run in the top of the seventh, but the Bulldogs held on for the victory.
Ty Hutchinson earned the win on the mound, throwing 5.2 strong innings. He allowed just three hits and one run while striking out six and walking four. Carroll came on in relief to close things out and recorded the save.
Owens led the Bulldogs offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Carroll’s key double in the sixth ultimately sparked the rally for the Dogs to get the win in game two of the three game series.
Game 3
Cameron Ledford had a career night at the plate, driving in five runs on three hits to lead the Toombs County Bulldog baseball team to a dominant 15-0 victory over Savannah Country Day on Friday. Ledford got things started early with a tworun home run to left field in the first inning. He followed it up with a two-run single in the fourth and capped off his night with another RBI single in the fifth.
The Bulldogs broke the game wide open with a massive 10-run fifth inning. Key plays included an RBI walk by Tyson Brantley, a sacrifice fly from Nick Carroll, an RBI single by Joseph Owens, another RBI single by Ledford, a two-run error, an RBI single from Kipp Mosley, and a three-run homer by Brody Benton.
Joseph Owens earned the win on the mound for Toombs County, tossing five shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, struck out three, and walked four.
Offensively, the Bulldogs racked up 13 hits. Ledford and Carroll each collected three hits, while Mosley and Brantley both added multiple hits. Mosley also showed patience at the plate, drawing two walks as part of the team’s seven total free passes.
Toombs County played error-free defense and turned a double play in the victory.
Toombs will have a nonregion schedule again this week. They hosted Burke County on Monday and Glynn Academy on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Glynn Academy with the first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
