Indians Get 1 From Raiders

The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team opened up Region play last week with a three-game series against the Raiders of Savannah Christian. VHS picked up the win in the second game of the series, but dropped the other two contests. The Indians are currently 7-8 on the year, and they are 1-2 in Region play.

Game 1

The Indians took the early lead in the first game of the series with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning by Veer Patel. But in the top of the second inning, the Raiders jumped ahead as they plated five runs in the frame.

Savannah added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to push their lead to 7-1. VHS did manage to get two in the bottom of the sixth inning, but that was all they could get as VHS fell, 8-3.

Game 2

In Savannah on Thursday, the Indians got a big game out of Patel on the way to the win. In the top of the first inning, Cayden Nance put the Indians on the board with an RBI single, and then Patel came through with a two-run home run to give VHS a 3-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Indians loaded the bases, and a walk to Patel brought in a run to take a 4-0 lead. Savannah answered in the bottom of the inning with a run to close the lead to 4-1, and then they added two more in the third inning to make it a 4-3 ballgame.

But VHS got a solo home run from Patel in the fifth inning, and then Dawson Stewart drove in a run on an RBI single. One more run scored on a wild pitch as VHS extended their lead to 7-3.

Savannah scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Indians broke the game open with five runs in the top of the sixth to take a 12-5 lead. Nance hit a two-run home run, Clay Mimbs had an RBI single, Henry Adams picked up an RBI and Braden Mulkey drove in a run.

VHS closed the game out with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the win over the Raiders, 15-5.

Game 3

In the top of the second inning, the Raiders scored the first run of the game to take a 1-0 lead. VHS answered in the bottom of the second with a run to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the fourth, Savannah jumpd ahead with four more runs, and then they added three more in the fifth inning to push the lead to 8-1. The Indians did get a run In the bottom of the fifth, but that was all they could manage as Savannah picked up the win, 8- 2.

This week the Indians were scheduled to play Swainsboro in a three-game series. The first game was supposed to be played on Monday and the second on Tuesday, both after presstime. The final game of the series is on Thursday in Vidalia at 5:45 p.m.
