Treutlen Sweeps Montgomery
The Treutlen County Vikings and the Montgomery County Eagles baseball teams met last week for a pair of Region games. It was the Vikings that came out on top as they won both games over their rival.
Game 1
It was all Treutlen on Tuesday of last week in Mt. Vernon. They got on the board first with an RBI double from Acie Dickens to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth to push the lead to 3-0.
Treutlen broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning with seven more runs as they pulled ahead to a 10-0 lead. They held on to take the game by the run rule, 10-0.
Jack Walker led Treutlen with a 3-3 performance at the plate. Gavin Wood, Brylan Ikner, Kylan Page, and Gavin Bailey also drove in runs for the Vikings.
Game 2
Wood threw a onehitter for the Vikings against the Eagles on Friday of last week in Soperton.
Treutlen got a two-RBI single from Caden Parrish in the bottom of the first inning, and the Vikings stole home on another play to take a 3-0 lead. Treutlen added three more runs in the second inning, two scored on errors, and the third came in on a hit by Walker.
The Vikings picked up another run in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth on the way to an 8-0 win.
The Vikings also fell to the Warriors of Jenkins last week in a nonregion game, 11-8. Treutlen is now 9-7 on the season, and they are 5-2 in Region play. The Eagles are 1-14 overall and are 1-8 in Region play.
This week Treutlen took on Dublin on Monday of this week in a nonregion game, and were back in Region play on Tuesday at home against Telfair County, both games after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday at Telfair at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles were scheduled to play East Laurens on Monday and Twiggs County on Tuesday, both after presstime. They will be at Twiggs on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
