It was a busy week for the Vidalia High School tennis teams as they faced off with Swainsboro on Tuesday, Savannah Christian on Wednesday, and then closed out the week and the regular season with a pair of wins over Toombs County on Thursday. vs. Swainsboro

It was another beautiful day for tennis as Vidalia High School’s Girls’ Tennis team secured a 4-1 region victory on the road in Swainsboro, while the Boys’ Tennis team fought hard but came up just short in a 2-3 battle.

For the Lady Indians, Laylah Brantley dominated at #1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Elizabeth Sowell delivered an equally strong performance at #3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Hannah Nichols put up a tough fight at #2 singles but fell in a 4-6, 5-7 loss. In doubles play, the #1 duo of Deidra Boston and Sadie Berry claimed a decisive 6-3, 6-2 win, while Annalyn Helms and Isabella Royal battled through a close match to secure a 7-5, 7-6 victory.

Larson Carter stepped up to play #1 singles on the boys’ side due to an injury and came away with a solid 7-5, 6-2 win. Stone Smith dominated at #2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. At #3 singles, Ryker Hutto fought through a tight match, winning the second set but ultimately falling in a third-set tiebreaker 5-7, 7-6, 4-10.

The doubles matches were intense, with Kingston Schwyzer and Cooper Mc-Callum putting on an incredible performance but falling in a third-set tiebreaker. Coach McLeod praised their effort, saying, “It was one of the best matches they have played yet!” A special shout-out goes to Kayden McKinnon, who stepped up to play #2 doubles with Sam Varn while also competing in a baseball game in Swainsboro. Though they didn’t get the win, the duo had a great experience competing together. vs. Savannah

win. Stone Smith playing at the #2 singles position brought another strong performance winning 6-2, 6-2. At #3 singles, Ryker Hutto took his match to a 3rd set tie breaker to secure the match deciding win for the Indians.

In the doubles matches, Cooper McCallum and Sam Varn played well at 1st doubles winning their first set, but couldn’t maintain their momentum dropping the 2nd set and tiebreaker match. At 2nd doubles, Ayden Goss, on loan from the Indian’s soccer team, filled in for an injured player and teamed up with Kingston Schwyzer to pull out the team’s fourth victory of the evening. Ayden and Kingston, who had never played together previously, put on an incredible performance winning in a 3rd set tiebreaker 10-1. The Indians finish an incredible week on a memorable Senior Night win with both Boys and Girls teams winning 3-2 and 5-0 respectively. The Lady Indian tennis team delivered a commanding performance, sweeping their rivals, the Toombs County Bulldogs, 5-0 . The victory was a perfect way to honor the team’s seniors and showcase their dominance on the court.

The match kicked off with first singles player Laylah Brantley setting the tone for the night, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in a flawless display of skill and control. Second singles player Elizabeth Sowell followed suit, securing a 6-1, 6-3 victory with precise shot placement and strong returns. Third singles saw Hannah Nichols continue the Indians’ winning streak with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 triumph, demonstrating her resilience and consistency.

The doubles teams carried the momentum, leaving no doubt about the Lady Indians’ superiority. The first doubles pair of Deidra Boston and Sadie Berry dominated their match, claiming a 6-0, 6-2 victory with excellent teamwork and powerful net play. The second doubles team of Annalyn Helms and Isabella Royal closed out the perfect night with a 6-0, 6-1 win, showing great chemistry and strategic play.

The energy from the home crowd fueled the Lady Indians throughout the evening, and the team’s performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication this season. With this victory, the Lady Indians build momentum as they approach the postseason, proving they are a force to be reckoned with. The Boys’ tennis team secured a thrilling 3-2 victory, showcasing grit and determination in a closely contested match. First singles Larsen Carter dominated his opponent, delivering a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win to set the tone for the Indians. Second singles Stone Smith followed suit with an equally impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory, demonstrating his consistency and precision on the court. The third singles match was a battle, with Ryker Hutto claiming the first set 6-2 before dropping the second set 3-6. In the deciding 10-point tiebreaker, Hutto fought hard but ultimately fell short, giving Toombs County one of their two wins on the night.

In doubles play, the first doubles team of Kingston Schwyzer and Sam Varn stepped up in a crucial match, securing a 6-4, 6-3 victory with strong teamwork and strategic play. Unfortunately, due to an injury, the Indians had to forfeit the second doubles match, giving the Bulldogs their second win. Despite the setback, the Indians’ resilience and strong performances in singles and first doubles carried them to victory. Coach McLeod and Gillies praised the team’s effort, saying, “Our players showed great determination tonight. Every match was a battle, and I’m proud of how we came through in the end. Go Indians!”

With this win, the Vidalia Indians continue to build momentum as they move forward in the season, proving they have the talent and toughness to compete at a high level.
