Ryan M. Dixon was sworn in as interim Wheeler County Tax Commissioner by Probate Judge Jolinda Harrelson at her office in the Wheeler County Courthouse on April 1. Dixon succeeds Kim Clark, who resigned recently to accept a job in the private sector. Clark had served in the position for almost 11 years when she officially left office on March 31.

November 4. A partisan primary election will take place on June 17. Qualifying for the post will be held April 14 and 15, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and for a half-day on April 16, 9 a.m.—noon at the Board of Elections Office, 16 W. Forest Avenue, Suite 101B, Alamo. The Wheeler County Commission met March 25 and set the qualifying fee at $1,465.70.

A native of Vidalia, Dixon is the son of Jimmy and Patricia Dixon. He has called Wheeler County his home since 2005. He is married to Janie Towns Dixon, an Alamo native, and they have three sons: Camden, Clayton, and Carver. Dixon is a member of Sardis Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon. Together, he and his wife lead the church’s youth ministry.

Dixon has been a certified law enforcement officer since 2000, working with the Lyons Police Department, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alamo Police Department. He has been a certified firefighter since 1996 and served as a volunteer with the Toombs County Fire Department before moving to Wheeler County. He is now Assistant Chief for the Alamo Volunteer Fire Department.

Since 2008, Dixon has worked full-time at Towns Funeral Home in Alamo. His dedication to the community extends to involvement in various organizations. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Refuge, a domestic violence shelter, since 2017. He also served on the Telfair-Wheeler 911 Board of Directors and previously held the role of Assistant Poll Manager for the Wheeler County Board of Elections. Recently, Dixon was appointed Assistant EMA Director for Wheeler County, further showcasing his commitment to public safety and community well-being.

Dixon brings extensive experience in fire safety and emergency services to his role as a certified fire instructor and evaluator for the State of Georgia. He is also a certified fire instructor for NASCAR, where he currently works for Talladega Emergency Services. In this role, Dixon is a supervisor for the Pit Fire and Garage Fire teams at Talladega Superspeedway. This job helps ensure the safety of participants and spectators during these high-stakes events.

Whether he is responding to an emergency, supporting a grieving family, or providing service to the community, Dixon is motivated to help others. Upon assuming his new role, he commented, “I appreciate Kim Clark’s diligence and dedication. She, along with Pam Stokes, has fulfilled the responsibilities of this office masterfully. I was honored when Judge Harrelson asked if I would accept this appointment, Serving the citizens of Wheeler County as interim Tax Commissioner is a privilege.”
