Wheeler Splits With Clinch

It was a tale of two games as the Wheeler County High School Bulldogs baseball team took on Clinch County last Tuesday on the road in a double header. In the first game, the Panthers of Clinch won the game by the run rule, and in the second game, Wheeler took the win by the run rule.

Game 1

It was all Clinch in the first game of the double header. Clinch jumped out with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added one more in the second, and two more in the third as they built up a 6-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

In the fourth inning, Clinch plated four more runs, and then held in the top of the fifth to take the win by the run rule, 10-0.

Game 2

But in the second game, the tables turned as Wheeler rolled to a run rule victory. Wheeler came out in the bottom of the first inning and scored eight runs to jump ahead. The Bulldogs added one more run in the second inning, but in the top of the third inning, Clinch did manage to put a run on the boad to make the score, 9-1. Wheeler plated two more in the third to push the lead to 11-1.

Wheeler's defense held in the fourth and fifth innings to take the win by the run rule, 11-1.

Wheeler is now 6-11 on the year, and they are 5-4 in Region play. This week they had a game against Dublin rained out on Monday, and they were at Montgomery County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday at home against Atkinson County at 6:00 p.m., and then will host Montgomery County on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
