Wheeler Beats Montgomery
The Montgomery County High School Eagles and the Wheeler County High School Bulldogs met up on the diamond last week for a pair of Region games. They both went Wheeler’s way as they took both wins.
Game 1
In the first game, Kolt Bell had a solid game on the mound for the Bulldogs as he struck out 14 MCHS batters on the way to the win.
Wheeler got on the board first with two runs in the second inning off of a 2-RBI double by Bobby Rowland. But MCHS took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Luke Burns came through with a 2-RBI single, and Eric White added an RBI to put MCHS up 3-2. The Eagles added one more run in the inning to lead the game, 4- 2.
Wheeler came back in the top of the fifth inning with seven more runs as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead over the Eagles. Wheeler added two more in the sixth and five more in the seventh on the way to a 16-4 win over Montgomery.
Game 2
In the second game on Friday in Alamo, MCHS took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning. Wheeler answered in the bottom half of the frame with a run to tie the game at 1-1. But in the third inning, the Bulldogs plated six more runs. The biggest hit of the inning was a bases-loaded inside-thepark grand slam by Bell. That put the Bulldogs on continued from page

In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles closed into that lead with four runs to make the score 7-5, but the Bulldogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to push their lead to 11-5. Wheeler added three more in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth as they took the game by the run rule, 155.
Wheeler vs. Atkinson Wheeler also played a game against Atkinson County on Thursday, but they lost that contest, 9-4. Wheeler is 6-13 on the year, and they are 4-4 in Region play. The Eagles are 3-17 on the year and are 1-9 in the Region.
This week Wheeler closes out their regular season. They were at Tattnall County on Tuesday after presstime and will be back in action on Friday at home against Treutlen County at 5:30 p.m. MCHS will play a double header on Wednesday against East Laurens for their final two games of the regular season. The first game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
