Wheeler County Students Practice the Art of Writing

Giving young learners many opportunities today to combine the art of writing with play builds students' creativity, imagination, and sense of confidence as they accomplish each task, which sets them up for success in their future.

Mrs. Widener's 1st grade students at Wheeler County Elementary School have been working on improving their writing skills. Before writing, students talk about the mechanics of writing and discuss the topic and what they might say in their writing piece. Mrs. Widener always encourages them to say their sentences out loud before writing them to ensure they make sense. On this day, students were writing about what they would do if they were the Easter bunny. This activity encouraged students to use information they already knew and to be creative and use their imaginations to think and write about what they would like to do differently or the same.
