Downtown Vidalia will be bustling with Vidalia Onion Festival activities throughout the week, as the Historic District joins the fun of the event.

On Wednesday, April 23, sidewalks of Downtown Vidalia will be decorated with art by local students as the annual Chalk Walk begins at 9 a.m. The Pal Theatre will show their documentary at the Theatre at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.

Also, on Thursday, April 24, G Clef & the Playlist will rock the annual Street Dance beginning at 6:00 p.m., and fireworks will light up the night beginning at dark at Ronnie A. Dixon City Park, located at 114 Jackson Street.

Vendors will be set up along the downtown streets from 12 p.m. until the end of the street dance on Thursday. On Friday, April 25, the Historic Pal Theatre will have two opportunities for festival patrons to sip and paint at the Mimosas and Onion Art events, which will occur at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets for this event must be purchased before the event, and may be purchased through the Vidalia Convention & Visitors Bureau or online at the Vidalia Onion Festival Website.

What’s Cooking Downtown?

What would a Vidalia Onion Festival be without fried onion rings? Festivalgoers can enjoy some of the tastiest onion rings around and stroll through the downtown Vidalia area to sample local dishes and indulge in a little shopping!

On Friday and Saturday of the Onion Festival, visitors can browse the specialty and boutique shops in Downtown Vidalia, which will offer special Vidalia Onion themed items during the Sweet Shopping hours (10 a.m. until 6 p.m.), and a wide array of local eateries will be serving up everything from full meals to short orders and more. The hospitality/information tent sponsored by the Downtown Vidalia Association, will be located on the corner of Highway 280 and Jackson Street, and will be selling Sweet Onion Rings & Things prepared by the Downtown Vidalia Association team as well as downtown souvenirs. Hot dogs, fresh pork skins and onion rings will be ready for Festival attendees from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
