Lady Barons Playing Well

The Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons softball team played two double headers last week as they swept Point University on Wednesday, and then Split with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Thursday. vs. Point

The Barons hosted the Skyhawks of Point University on April 16, 2025, at their home field in Mount Vernon, GA. The Barons cruised to a sweep, taking game one thanks to Kaylee Odum's dominant pitching performance, shutting out the Skyhawks 4-0. Game two, the Barons' stellar 15-2 victory in these critical conference games, saw them bring their season record to 16-21-1, as they march toward the postseason.

From the outset of game one, Brewton-Parker seized control with two runs in the first inning, setting a tone of resilience and determination. Key contributors to the victory included Tori Wright, who hammered out four hits and drove in one run, and Abbey Flowers, who notched three hits and two RBIs. Lexi Bradshaw and Abby Banks also contributed to the scoreboard, ensuring a steady lead throughout the game.

The pitching display shut down the entire roster with Kaylee Odum delivering a near-perfect game. Odum pitched 6.2 innings of no-hit softball before allowing just one hit by pitch and one hit, completing the game with a complete game shutout performance. Her outing helped carry the team to victory after the early lead and dominance helped the Barons cruise.

In game two, Tori Wright, notably distinguished for her three hits and two doubles, played a pivotal role in setting the pace for the Barons. The third inning proved monumental for Brewton-Parker, as they amassed an 11-run lead, decisively tilting the game in their favor. Other significant contributors included Alyssa Usrey, who secured 3 RBIs and scored a run herself, and Hailey Gabrich, matching Usrey's 3 RBIs while adding two runs. The Barons' offensive rally was complemented by a strong pitching performance from starter Sam Matthews and reliever Natalie O'Neil to help keep the Skyhawks to just two runs. vs. ABAC

In a doubleheader showdown at home, the Barons split with the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies. Dropping game one 5-1 and taking game two with a final score of 4-2 on April 17, 2025, in Mount Vernon, Georgia. The split took the Barons' record to 17-22-1.

In game one, Tori Wright scored the lone run for Brewton-Parker, showcasing her speed and agility on the bases. Abbey Flowers contributed to the team's effort with an RBI, but it was not enough to secure a victory. Kaylee Odum, Brewton- Parker's starting pitcher, displayed resilience through her complete game, allowing five runs and striking out one across seven innings.

The Barons established a strong lead early in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning, a lead which they maintained throughout the game. Hailey Gabrich was a standout player, delivering three hits and driving in a crucial run. Alongside Gabrich, Abbey Flowers and Alyssa Usrey contributed significantly to the team's offense, each adding valuable hits and RBIs that propelled the Barons to victory.

Natalie O'Neal started on the mound for Brewton- Parker, playing a pivotal role in keeping the ABAC hitters at bay and securing the win for her team. Sammantha Matthews came into the seventh to get the save and finish off the Fillies.
