A Vidalia mother has been arrested after her fouryear old child overdosed on THC gummies.

Tiffany Martin, 41, of Vidalia, is charged with cruelty to children in the second degree and possession of a controlled substance after her child was hospitalized for an overdose. continued from page

According to the Vidalia Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Memorial Health Meadows Hospital around 3:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon, April 11, after doctors learned that the child’s sickness was a result of the child consuming THC. The child was transported to the Memorial Health Children’s Hospital in Savannah and made a full recovery.

The police department worked jointly with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Eastman Office to investigate the case, and learned that the child had eaten several tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) gummies while in the mother’s care. THC gummies are edible candies – looking very similar to a child’s candy – that are infused with a psychoactive ingredient, giving consumers a sense of a “high” when they are eaten. The THC in these gummies may be derived from hemp, a form of the cannabis plant with a lower THC concentration, or marijuana. Hemp-infused THC gummies are legal in Georgia as long as they remain under 0.3% THC; marijuana-infused THC gummies are illegal in the state unless prescribed for medicinal use.
