Two Indians Sign Letters Of Intent

Last Monday two Vidalia High School athletes signed their letters of intent to play sports at the next level. Deuce Hightower is moving on to wrestle for Brewton-Parker College, and Levi Palmer signed to play football at Berry College].
Hightower
Hightower was a back-to-back State Champion for the VHS wrestling program. He claimed his first title as a junior at 165lbs. and then won his second his senior year at 175lbs. He will be heading over to wrestle for the Barons at BPC.
Hightower said, “I am really thankful for this opportunity. I had some other choices, but Brewton- Parker was just the best fit for me. I have to thank my parents for all their support, the rest of my family, my coaches, and my teammates for all they have done.”
His father Gabe added, “We are very proud of him. He has worked very hard at this since he was five years old, and we are excited to see what he can do at the next level. We wanted to see him stay close to home, and we are happy he chose Brewton-Parker. He is going into the ministry, so it is going to be a good fit for him.
VHS Coach Bobby Blount stated, “Very proud of him. He has meant a lot to our program and to our school. There are not enough words to describe the quality of kid that he is. BPC is getting a great one and we are losing one, but we are glad he will be close, and we will get to go see him compete. The future is bright for this kid. He is a great leader, and this is just a great fit for him. Just excited to see him show his talent at the next level.”
Palmer
Palmer was a standout on the Indians’ football team on the defensive line. He will be taking his talents to Mount Berry, GA , to play for the Vikings.
Palmer said, “I am excited and have been looking forward to today. A lot of hard work has gone into this, just seeing the product up to this point, and knowing that I have more to do. Berry was there from the beginning of the recruiting process. When I went up there, it really just felt like the right place for me. I have to thank God for this first and foremost. I want to thank my mom and dad, especially my dad, to see him get up at 1:00 a.m. every day and how hard he works, just motivated me to work even harder. My brothers are always there and I want to thank all the coaches that have helped me along the way.”
His father Chris added, “Very happy for Levi. He has wanted to play at the next level since junior high, and he has just pursued that goal. We are grateful for the opportunity that he has. I know that I will get up there for his games and get to go to some of the road games that aren’t too far away as well. Berry is just a beautiful campus, a good school, and we are just so happy for him.”
VHS Head Coach Rodney Garvin stated, “He was our most valuable defensive lineman. Just a servant leader as a player and always looking after other kids. He is a tough guy on the field, does a great job in the classroom, and we are just very proud to have another Indian moving on to the next level. Berry is getting a great kid, a good family, and we look forward to seeing what he can do.”
