Two Wins For Wheeler Co.
The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs baseball team wrapped up the regular season with two wins. They defeated Tattnall County and Treutlen County last week. vs. Tattnall
It was a big sixth inning that clinched the win for the Bulldogs over the Warriors. Wheeler got the first run across in the top of the first inning off a Kolt Bell double, but Tattnall plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Tattnall added two more runs in the third inning. Wheeler scored two in the top of the fifth inning to close the lead to 4-3, but three more from the Warriors in the bottom of the frame gave them a 7-3 lead.
Wheeler came back with five runs in the top of the sixth inning, including a big double by Jaden Bridges that drove in two runs. That gave Wheeler a 8-7 lead. The Bulldogs held on the take the win by that score, 8-7. vs. Treutlen
It was a close game between these two rivals, but Wheeler came out on top. Treutlen jumped out to a big lead in the top of the first inning with eight runs. Wheeler plated three in the bottom of the first inning to close the lead to 8-3.
Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth inning when the Vikings added a run to push their lead to 9-3.
Wheeler did not give up though, and in the bottom of the sixth, they got things going as they plated eight runs to take an 11-9 lead. Wheeler held on to win the game by that score.
Wheeler wrapped up the season with a record of 10-13, and they were 8-4 in the Region. Wheeler will play in the first round of the State Playoffs beginning on Wednesday. They will be at Metter for a double header beginning at 4:00 p.m. If necessary, they will play a third game on Thursday with a time to be announced.
