The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team had two special ceremonies prior to the second game of their threegame series against Toombs County on Thursday of last week.
State Champions
First, the 1995 State Championship Baseball team celebrated the 30th Anniversary of their Title run. Those members of the team in attendance were Rhett Carter, Doug Roper, Wesley Cooper, Tonya Parker, Portia Anderson, Chris Blount , Bill Sharpton, Travis Blewett, Ben Beck, Radio Announcers Lynn Moore and John Koon, Assistant Coach Rad Dixon, and Head Coach Greg James.
Head Baseball Coach Ben Beck, a member of the ’95 team, said, 'Three decades may have gone by, but the legacy of that team still echoes on the field. That championship season wasn’t just a moment in time—it became the standard that still inspires today. We played with heart, unity, and an unshakable belief in each other. We turned obstacles into opportunity and pressure into greatness. We didn’t just win a title— we helped build a legacy that still wears the uniform.'
Lynn Moore
In the second ceremony, the Vidalia Baseball program honored long time radio announcer Lynn Moore for his more than 30 years of broadcasting baseball games by naming the pressbox the Lynn Moore Pressbox.
Communications Director and Voice of the Indians John Koon said of Moore,”For nearly three decades, Lynn Moore has served as the voice of our team, providing play-by-play coverage that has brought countless moments of joy and excitement to fans, families, and players alike.
“Since 1995, Lynn has skillfully narrated the Indians’ triumphs and challenges, capturing the essence of the game and the spirit of our community. Over the years, Lynn has been instrumental in three State Championship broadcasts— in 1995, 2003, and 2022— each event a testament to his passion and commitment.
“But his contributions extend far beyond the microphone. Lynn exemplifies the true spirit of a Vidalia Indian, a graduate of Vidalia High School who has generously invested in our program, from purchasing meals and uniforms to tirelessly fundraising for the hitting facility. Today, as a fitting tribute to his years of hard work, passion, and unwavering support, we dedicate the Baseball Press Box at Greg James Field to Lynn Moore.
“From this moment forward, it will be known as the Lynn Moore Press Box. Let us celebrate not only his contributions to the game but also the legacy of community, commitment, and spirit that he embodies. Thank you, Lynn, for everything you have done; your impact will resonate in the hearts of all who gather here for years to come.”
