Indians Over Jeff Davis

The Indians of Vidalia high school picked up a pair of wins over Jeff Davis to close out the regular season last Friday night in Hazlehurst. The Lady Indians ran away with a win while the boys held off a tough Yellow Jacket team to get their win.

Girls vs. JD

The Lady Indians led 5-4 halfway through the first period. Jeff Davis came back and went up 8-5 on the Indians, but Cristal Franklin and Kyleigh Johnson got baskets to fall as VHS went ahead 11-8 by the end of the first period.

Early in the second Franklin added another shot, and it was 21-12 later in the second. It was 21-17 after a three by JD, and by the end of the half it was 26-17 with VHS out in front.

With 3:38 left in the third period the score was 34-28. VHS kept fighting and at the end of the third period the Lady Indians were up 38-24.

VHS had a big fourth period as they pulled away from the Yellow Jackets. They pushed the lead to 50-28 with Treyunna Roundtree finding her shot and De'asia Thomas getting several baskets. VHS went on to win the game 56-31.

The Lady Indians were led by Thomas and Franklin each with 13 points.

Boys vs. JD

In the first period Ty Dalley found his shot early as he had 9 points in the first period of the game. VHS was up 16-7 late in the first period, and at the buzzer they led 18-9 with Konner Owens getting a basket to fall at the end of the period.

Early in the second Owens came up with a steal and another basket, but JD closed the lead to 2-20 with 3:30 left in the half. Matt Hill got a shot to fall, and then Dalley hit a three-pointer as VHS led 29-22 at the end of the first continued from page

half. In the third period the Indians kept up the pressure and were on top 38-30 heading to the fourth. With just 2:42 to go in the game the score was 46-32. JD closed the lead to 10 points with just over one minute left, but the Indians held on to win 48- 41.

VHS was led by Dalley with 14 points, Jakobi Washington added 13, and Ira Clements scored 8 in the win.

The Lady Indians finished the regular season at 10-10 over all and 6-6 in the Region while the boys were 13-7 and 7-5. This week is the Region Tournament and the Lady Indians played on Tuesday after presstime against Swainsboro. If they won that game, they will play again on Wednesday at East Laurens at 6:00 p.m. The boys will play their first game of the tournament on Wednesday against Toombs County at home at 6:00 p.m.
