It was a showdown between Lyons and Vidalia in the 12u boys Championship Game at the 58th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament last week. Lyons went into the game as the undefeated team with Vidalia battling back through the losers' bracket for their shot at the title.

Vidalia was able to force a Game 2 in the Championship, but in the second game Lyons ran away with the win.

The two teams met earlier in the tournament with Lyons winning that game to send Vidalia into the losers' bracket. In that game Lyons took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a home run by Riley Kersey, and extended that lead to 3-0 in the third inning.

Vidalia picked up a run in the fourth, but Lyons held on to win the game 3-1 over their rivals.

Vidalia battled their way back for the rematch in the Championship Game. In Game 1 Vidalia went ahead with a run in the first inning and added one in the second to lead 2-0 over Lyons. In the top of the fourth inning Vidalia pushed that lead to 4-0 after a 2 RBI single. Vidalia added another run in the top of the fifth inning to lead the game 5-0 over Lyons.

Lyons came back in the bottom of the fifth inning as they loaded the bases. Lyons scored two runs to close the lead to 5-2, and then got a big hit by Lawton Toole to make it a one-run game at 5-4.

Vidalia held onto that lead heading to the bottom of the sixth and final inning of regualtion. But Lyons tied the game on a hit by Kersey at 5-5, which sent the game to extra innings.

In the top of the seventh inning Vidalia picked up a run on a sacrifice fly to lead 6-5 over Lyons. Lyons again tied the game in the bottom of the inning at 6-6 to send the game to the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth Vidalia pulled away with three more runs to take a 9-6 lead. Lyons managed to score just one run in the bottom of the eighth as they fell, 9-7.

That win for Vidalia forced a Game 2 between the teams for the 1-0 lead after the second inning, and were on top 2-1 over Lyons after the third, but that is when Lyons got the bats going.

In the top of the fourth inning an error by Vidalia with the bases loaded put Lyons on top

scoring one in the bottom of the frame to make it a 10-3 lead for

Lyons. 3-2. Lyons loaded the bases back up, and Kersey came through with a grand slam home run as Lyons jumped out in front 7-2 over Vidalia.

Lyons added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, with Vidalia Lyons closed it out with two more in the sixth inning as they won the game 12-3 over VRD.
