Wheeler Gets 2nd Win
The Wheeler County High School Buldogs baseball team picked up their second win of the season last week as they took on Telfair County in a three-game Region series. Telfair won the first two games, but Wheeler pulled out the win in the third game.
Game 1
The first game was on Tuesday in Alamo, and it was a tough one for the Bulldogs. Telfair put the first run on the board in the top of the third inning and added three more in the fifth to go up 4-0. Four more runs for the Trojans in the top of the seventh inning sealed the win. Wheeler did manage to get one run across in the bottom of the final inning, but the Bulldogs fell
8- 1.
Game 2
In the first game of a double header on Friday in McRae the Bulldogs fell behind in the third inning and by the end of the fifth were down 4-0. Wheeler got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of runs, but five more by Telfair in the bottom of the frame gave them a 9-2 win.
Game 3
In the final game of the series the Bulldogs finally came out on top. In the top of the second Wheeler put a run on the board, but Telfair jumped ahead in the third with two runs to lead 2-1. Wheeler went back on top in the fourth as they scored three times for a 4-2 lead. Telfair scored a run in the fifth, but Wheeler added an insurance run in the sixth on their way to a 5-3 victory.
Wheeler is now 2-12 on the year, and they are 2-7 in the Region. This week they will be playing rival Montgomery County. The first game was on Tuesday after presstime. They will play a double header on Friday in Alamo with the first game to begin at 4:00 p.m.
