Two Wins For Heritage
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles baseball team split two games with Fullington Academy and got a win over Memorial Day last week as they improved their record to 5-4 on the year.
vs. Fullington
On Monday of last week the Eagles hosted Fullington at the Ed Smith Complex and dropped a close game. The Trojans of Fullington got off to a fast start as they scored all five of their runs in the top of the first inning. The Eagles picked up one run in the bottom of the first to close the lead to 5-1. Neither team scored again until Heritage plated another run in the sixth inning, and then scored one more in the seventh, but came up short, 5-3 to the Trojans.
vs. Memorial
A big inning for the Eagles blew the game open and gave them the win over Memorial Day with the game being held at Brewton-Parker College last Tuesday.
Memorial scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but Heritage plated two in the bottom of the frame and never again gave up the lead. They added one more in the second and fourth in the third as they built up a 7-1 lead. In the fourth inning the Eagles offense went on a tear as they posted 10 runs to push their lead to 17-1. Memorial did add three in the top of the fifth inning, but the Eagles took the 17-4 win by the run rule. Hardy Franklin led Heritage with 3 RBI's and JT Cofield added 3 hits in the game. Ledger Curl got the win on the mound for the Eagles.
vs. Fullington
On Thursday in Pinehurst the Eagles got some revenge on Fullington Academy. Curl had a big game with 4 hits and 2 RBI's to lead to Eagles over the Trojans. Heritage got on the board first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Fullington picked up a run in the bottom half of the frame to close the lead to 2-1, but the Eagles added two more in the fourth inning as they opened up a 4-1 lead.
The Trojans plated two in the fifth as they tried to mount a comeback, but the Eagles got an insurance run in the sixth inning on the way to a 5-3 victory.
This week Heritage was at Georgia Christian Academy on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back on the diamond at Griffin Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
