Brooke Heinz Chaplain, assistant attorney in the office of the Attorney General of Georgia, presided over the public hearing mandated by the Georgia Hospital Acquisition Act, which involves the sale of MRMC to Vidalia Health Services, LLC, an affiliate of HCA
Healthcare. The live and virtual hearing included testimony from witnesses on behalf of Meadows Healthcare Alliance, Meadows Regional Medical Center and Vidalia Health Services, as well as financial consultants obtained by both parties and the presence of the Attorney General.
The hearing panel consisted of Assistant Attorney General Robin Koneg; Jimmy Peterson, principal at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, who was retained as the Attorney General’s valuation consultant; attorney Rusty Ross, representing Vidalia Health Services; Hugh Tappan, President of the South Atlantic Division of HCA Healthcare; attorney Michelle Williams, representing Meadows Healthcare Alliance and Meadows Regional Medical Center; Michael Calhoun, Chairman of Meadows Healthcare Alliance; Alan Kent, president, CEO, and board member of MRMC; and Iaian Briggs, financial advisor for MRMC. Joining the hearing remotely were Opal Greenway, principal and director at Stroudwater Associates, an independent valuator; and Joseph Sowell, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at HCA.
