Mr. Russell Tanner
Mr. Alton Russell Tanner, age 82, of the Oglethorpe Community of Soperton, died on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton. Mr. Tanner was a lifelong resident of Emanuel County, Georgia. He worked for a local telephone company burying cable and worked for and retired from Rayonier in Nunez. He was a charter member of Morningside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Sue Tanner, 1 infant child; his parents, Alton Lee Tanner and Tearra Mondy Tanner; 4 brothers, William Lee, Eddie Henry, John Leon, and Clyde; and 4 sisters, Myrthe Aline, Kate Pearl, Wanda Nellyine, and Dora Lucy.
Survivors include his caretaker of over 20 years, Michelle and husband Jeffery Page of Tarrytown,; 1 special niece, Lisa Holloway of Swainsboro; special friends, Rev. Lamar and Ione Little of Soperton, Teddy and Gail Holton of Soperton, Henry Terwilliger of Swainsboro, the staff of Dennard Drugs of Soperton, the staff members of Treutlen Health and Rehabilitation Center of Soperton; several nieces and nephews, along with other numerous friends of Soperton and Swainsboro.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., at Morningside Baptist Church, with Rev. Vic Fordham officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeffery Page, JP Page, Mark Lumley, and Clay Page.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Morningside Baptist Church.
Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
